Graham Roumieu's latest book is out now! Cat and Gnome, published by Blue Q, is an "awkward portrait of a one-sided relationship between a real cat and a ceramic garden gnome. Throw in characters like Reggie the snail and an exploding robot from the future and you get this hilarious tale... For anyone who ever felt like they were doing everything wrong but got a happy ending anyway."

Successful Wake for Bigfoot
Last month's wake themed book launch party for Graham Roumieu's newest book Bigfoot: I Not Dead was a spectacular success. The concept of a wake clearly resonated with people as The Gladstone Hotel management estimated the crowd at well over 250, which is about a hundred over capacity.
Each of the 'eulogists' did a wonderful job. Much like a real wake, their testimonials contradicted one another with five eulogists presenting five bigfoots; Douglas Bell's intellectual, Sean Cullen's zen master, Jeremy Keehn's clandestine lover, Damian Rogers's soulful hipster bassist, Nathan Whitlock's philanderer and Michael Winter's practical joker. Tim Beresford, the host, was hilarious and the acoustic guitar "candle in the wind" was the perfect choice to end evening.
Although a good portion of the crowd had a copy of Bigfoot: I Not Dead under their arm as they walked in, an astonishing 79 additional copies were sold that night. We hope Graham's inspired inscription for the Bigfoot poster - "buy book at Pages or me kill you" - will drive sales for months to come.
Thanks to Pages Books and Magazines, The Walrus, Penguin and The Gladstone Hotel for a wonderful event and please check out the pics of the evening if you missed the fun.

Bigfoot In the Press
Graham Roumieu's third Bigfoot book, Bigfoot: I Not Dead, has received glowing reviews from Mark Medley at National Post and Paul Corupe at Rue Morgue magazine. You can catch the review in the Arts & Life section of today's National Post and in the current issue of Rue Morgue.

Roumieu Launches Bigfoot: I Not Dead
The eagerly anticipated follow-up to Me Write Book and In Me Own Words, Bigfoot: I Not Dead hits bookstores on Tuesday, April 29th, 2008. "In his eagerly anticipated follow-up to Me Write Book, Bigfoot returns from exile to share his inspiring, hilarious, and often deeply disturbing experiences as a misunderstood forest gentleman and tragic media darling. These entertaining and often grizzly stories stand not only as a testament to the greatness of the legendary man-beast, but also as a chilling cautionary tale of the downside of a life of celebrity, cannibalism, celebrity cannibalism, wanton violence, and lack of toilet training. As in Me Write Book, full-color glossy spreads depict every intimate, disgusting, and downright insane moment of Bigfoot’s life. Bigfoot: I Not Dead is an unforgettable memoir that will stay with readers long after his foul scent has dissipated." - Penguin

Roumieu & Pilsner, Part 2
Last year Graham Roumieu collaborated with Taxi Toronto on the website for Molson's Old Style Pilsner beer. The beer was first brewed in 1926 so they built the website to appear as if it used 1926 technology, like a drafting table and a pair of hands, instead of fancy computer graphics. Graham contributed his illustrations and his own hands to the website, which just won an award for web design from Applied Arts magazine in the advertising section. The winners for this year's Interactive Awards are all listed in the current issue. Congratulations go out to Graham and everyone at Taxi!

Roumieu Admired by Toureg Tribesman
Clint McLean, photographer and photo editor of the Globe & Mail newspaper, captured this priceless shot while in the Sahara desert north of Timbuktu. While traveling by camel he sat in the shade near a well to kill time during the hottest part of the day and shared a few magazines with the locals. This Toureg tribesman took particular interest in a copy of The Walrus with a cover illustration by Graham Roumieu. He looked through the whole magazine upside down and spent most of his time looking at the pictures.
BTW - check out Clint's website, his work is really beautiful.

Roumieu's Love Letter
Releasing this month, Graham Roumieu has a 'love letter' included in a collection of fiction titled Four Letter Word published by Chatto and Windus (UK) and edited by Joshua Knelman and Rosalind Porter. The book is a unique collection of new fiction written by 35 celebrated contemporary writers including Margaret Atwood, Miriam Toews, David Bezmozgis, Douglas Coupland, Michel Faber, A.L. Kennedy, Audrey Niffenegger, Lionel Shriver, Jan Morris, Jeanette Winterson, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, Joseph Boyden, Panos Karnezis, Jonathan Lethem, M.G. Vassanji and Neil Gaiman.
Each writer explores the distinctive form of the love letter to remind us how enticing words can be and perhaps even to resurrect a dying custom. Graham's letter 'From Bigfoot to Santa' is classic Roumieu and an unexpected treat between last year's Me Write Book and next year's I Not Dead.
The Canadian edition debuts January 8, 2008 from Knopf Canada (Random House) and the US edition will be published by Simon & Schuster.
